  • April 2023: Bijay, Supriya, Archita, Prashant and Sayantan participate in the 2023 EGU General Assembly in Vienna, Austria. 

  • March 2023: Paper on respiratory deposition analysis of aerosol-associated trace metals and corresponding disease burden estimation is published in STOTEN. Bijay is the first author.

  • February 2023: Sayantan and Supriya deliver an Invited Lecture on "Brown carbon aerosol: a significant climate forcing agent in the Indian context" at the Bihar SPCB Online Training-cum-Exposure series on "Black Carbon Measurement as a Tool for Aerosol Apportionment". 
     

  • December 2022: Sayantan delivers a Keynote Address on "Sources and climate forcing of aerosol brown carbon in the eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain" at the VII International Conference on Sustainable Energy & Environmental Challenges (16th - 18th December) held at IIT BHU.
     

  • December 2022: Bijay receives the Early Career Scientist's Travel grant for participating in the 2023 European Geophysical Union (EGU) Fall Meeting.
     

  • December 2022: Supriya gets the first position for her poster presentation on "3D fluorescence-PARAFAC fingerprinting of aqueous brown carbon in the eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain" in IICQAM 2022.
     

  • November 2022: Komal joins the group as a Project Associate in the MoES project.
     

  • November 2022: Bijay's abstract on "Exposure to aerosol-associated trace metals during active cooking in rural spheres of northeastern India: Insights from size-segregated profiles and respiratory deposition analysis" is selected for Oral Presentation in the 2023 Asian Conference on Indoor Environmental Quality (ACIEQ, 2nd Edition).
     

  • November 2022: Poster on "3D fluorescence-PARAFAC fingerprinting of aqueous brown carbon in the eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain" gets accepted for IICAQM 2022 conference. Supriya also receives an invitation to attend the winter school workshop.
     

  • October 2022: Prashant receives the Student Travel Grant for participating in the 2022 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting.

  • October 2022: AC3 group gets fund for a project on "Aerosol brown carbon, humic-like substances and nitroaromatics in the Himalayas: implications for regional climate" from the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India. The total funding is INR 7.8 million (Rs. 78 lakh) and the project duration is 2022-2025.
     

  • September 2022: Sayantan gives an oral presentation on "Linking chromophoric composition with optical characteristics of water-soluble brown carbon in the Indo-Gangetic Plains, India" at the 11th International Aerosol Conference (IAC 2022).
     

  • August 2022: Pronoy joins the group as the 7th Ph.D. student.

  • June 2022: Paper on seasonal variations in aerosol acidity and its driving factors in the eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain published in Chemosphere. Bijay is the first author.

  • April 2022: Paper investigating the role of fireworks as a significant episodic source of brown carbon published in Environ. Sci. Pollut. Res. Prashant is the first author.

  • March 2022: Sayantan delivers an Invited Lecture on "Brown carbon aerosols: basics and insights from field measurements in eastern India" at the IIT Madras-AICTE Workshop on Concepts in Measurement, laboratory Experiment and Modelling of Atmospheric Pollutants.

  • February 2022: Sneha joins the group as the 6th Ph.D. student.

  • April 2021: Paper on characterization of brown carbon using EEM fluorescence spectroscopy coupled with PARAFAC modeling published in Environ. Sci.: Process. Impacts. This is part of Supriya's Ph.D. thesis work, and she is the first author.  

  • April 2021: Bijay presents a poster on "Interaction of aerosol ionic and carbonaceous species in the eastern IGP" in the 2021 EGU General Assembly. 

  • February-March 2021: Several collaborative papers published: i) PAHs and carbonaceous aerosol in Delhi published in Aerosol Sci. Engg.; ii) characteristics of peat-forest smoke in source and receptor regions in SE Asia published in Environ. Pollut.; iii) single particle-based deposition measurement in the respiratory tract published in Environ. Pollut.; iv) comparative source apportionment by filter- and single particle-based analysis published in Elementa: Sci. Anthrop.  

  • December 2020: AC3 group collaborates with Linkoping University, Karolinska Institut, Fortis Hospital Kolkata, and the University of Dhaka for the project "Coal-based economies in developing countries: an environmental, health and cost evaluation around mega thermal power plants" funded by the Swedish Research Council. The total funding is SEK 4.5 million (~Rs. 4 Cr) and the project duration is 2021-2023. 

  • October 2020: Archita receives the prestigious Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) in Earth Sciences. 

  • August 2020: Paper on compositional analysis of brown carbon and HULIS in the eastern IGP published in Environ. Pollut. This is Arya's MS Thesis work, and he is the first author.  

  • February - March 2020: Prashant conducts extensive fieldwork in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the characterization of residential biofuel emissions.

  • February 2020: Sayantan joins IIT Mandi as Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering. The 2.5 year journey of AC3 at IISER-K ends - only to begin afresh at IIT Mandi.

  • January 2020: Archita visits Prof. Neil Rose's research group at University College - London (UCL) as an exchange student for 2 weeks to work on SCP profiles of lake sediments. She received full funding from the Global Engagement Fund (GEF) of UCL for this visit. 

  • January 2020: Supriya receives the prestigious Roland Schlich Early Career Scientist Travel Support to present her work on the optical and chemical properties of wintertime light-absorbing aerosols at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria.

  • January 2020: Archita receives GeoHost support to present her work on optical properties of brown carbon at the 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) in New Delhi, India.

  • January 2020: Paper on aerosol brown carbon optical characteristics in the eastern IGP published in Sci. Total. Environ. This is Archita's MS project, and she is the first author.

  • December 2019 - January 2020: Bijay conducts extensive field sampling in 3 NE Indian states for the characterization of residential fuel use emissions. 

  • November 2019: Bijay participates with full funding in the International Workshop on Advanced Machine Learning Techniques for Climate Informatics, organized by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, and the Center for Soft Computing Research, ISI Kolkata.

  • November 2019: AC3 Group receives funding from SERB, DST to study chemical speciation and airway deposition of aerosol-bound organics and trace metals from indoor cooking in NE India.

  • November 2019: Paper on source apportionment of road dust-associated heavy metals in Kolkata published in Sci. Total Environ. This is Vismay's MS Thesis work, and he is the first author.

  • November 2019: Paper on size-segregated EC deposition in the human respiratory system published in Sci. Total Environ. Collaboration between IISER-K, Jinan U, GEMC and SYU.

  • October 2019: Paper on natural factors constraining tropospheric O3 levels published in Atmos. Environ. Collaboration between IISER-K, Jinan U, GEMC and SYU.

  • September 2019: Archita visits the Indian Arctic station at Ny-Alesund for 1.5 months to continue aerosol and snow sampling.  

  • September 2019: Debajit joins AC3 as an MS Thesis student.

  • August 2019: Sayantan visits the Indian Arctic station at Ny-Alesund for 1 month to set up sampling systems. 

  • May 2019: Anuraag, Shubham, Shruti, Vismay and Arya successfully defend their MS theses, and are awarded degrees.

  • May 2019: Paper on factors influencing SOC estimation by CO and EC tracer methods published in Sci. Total Environ. Collaboration between IISER-K, SYU, Jinan U.

  • April 2019: AC3 Group's research proposal to study aerosol-driven climate change in the Arctic is accepted by NCPOR, MoES. AC3 receives approval and funding to participate in the Indian Arctic Expedition for the 2019-2020 period.

  • April 2019: Paper on regional sulfate-driven long-term rise in AOD over Kolkata published in Atmos. Environ. This is Prashant's MS Thesis work, and he is the first author.

  • March 2019: Paper on carbonaceous aerosol indicators in SE Asia published in Environ. Pollut. Collaboration between NUS, UC-Irvine, NRL, and ITB.

  • January 2019: Review paper on BC aerosol in India published in Atmos. Res. Archita is the first author.

  • November 2018: Archita and Prashant present their work on summertime black and brown carbon (BC and BrC), and long-term rise in AOD, respectively, in the eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain at IASTA-2018.

  • August 2018: Archita participates in the International Workshop on Land-Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction, Greenhouse Gases and Coastal Processes (LOA) at IISER-Kolkata.
